Mercedes-AMG Team GMR, known as GruppeM Racing, is a team synonymous with success at the very highest level of motor racing.
GruppeM Racing begin its project in the early 2000’s, quickly gaining the respect of both manufacturers and its fellow competitors. The team very quickly set its self as a reference team within the GT Racing community, taking numerous victories during its initial campaigns. In 2005 GruppeM Racing wrote its name in the history books by dominating the complete FIA GT Championship. Producing an impressive record of eleven wins in eleven races. Never before had this been done and it is something still unbeaten today.
Moving forward one decade, after many years racing with Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin, GruppeM Racing focused on a new racing program, as the first team to commit to the inaugural season of the SRO groups Blancpain GT Asia Championship. Not only the first ever team to sign up in this championship it also committed its future to Mercedes-AMG, by being the first team to bring the Mercedes-AMG GT3 to the Asian Championship.
Proving once again its pedigree and attitude, GruppeM Racing claimed three championships in its initial season in Asia, Teams Overall Champions, Drivers Overall Champions and Bronze Driver Champions. By the end of 2017, GruppeM Racing made another milestone by becoming the first Asian racing to become an official Mercedes-AMG Performance team and was invited by Mercedes-AMG to compete at Macau FIA GT World Cup on behalf of the German brand and at its first attempt , the team took away a third place in the 2017 FIA World Cup.
Even more was yet to come in 2018 when Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing left another important mark on history by conquering the famous circuit of Suzuka during the famous 10 Hours of Suzuka race, once again against the greatest drivers and teams in the World and 2018 was rounded off with another podium at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, this time with a second position.
To end the decade, Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing couldn’t have finish in a better way, when it narrowly missed out on claiming the overall Intercontinental GT Championship for AMG but also claimed the 2019 FIA GT World Cup Title in Macau and also setting a new lap record. An astonishing result for the history of GruppeM Racing.
Sadly , due to covid, the 2020 season was not to be for GruppeM Racing but with the start of 2021 came a new challenge as GMR entered into the infamous DTM championship as the championship took on the GT3 format. Running 1 car in the inaugural season, GruppeM Racing showed it’s prowess by taking several podiums and front row qualifying positions and set a new benchmark, for a non-German team, competing in a German based Championship. With 2022, came another year of DTM, this time fielding 2 cars, taking several podiums on its way and along with this, the team went back to its roots, competing in several IGTC Endurance events, narrowly missing out on a podium at Spa 24hrs and qualifying with a front row lock-out at Abu Dhabi 8hrs race, and so started GruppeM Racing move back to the longer distance endurance races.
In the following years, GMR entered into the very best of GT3 racing around the globe, taking podiums or race wins at Bathurst 12hr, Indy 10hr, Abu Dhabi 8hrs, Indianapolis 8 hrs and culminating in a first return to the FIA World Cup in 2024 since its victorious year 2019. Racing in the special 130 years of AMG livery, Mercedes-AMG Team GMR succeeded in once again winning the FIA GT World Cup , its second title in a row and defining its self as one of the greatest GT Racing teams in history.
